A woman with learning difficulties was attacked on Christmas
day in Southsea along St. Andrews Road.
The 25-year-old was walking the short distance to her
mother’s house in the early evening, when she was attacked by a group of boy’s
aged 12 to 15. After the attack she went back to her flat and locker herself
in. The attack was later reported to the police by her family. Police say that
‘these cruel and despicable action’ by these boys where committed on the basis
of what the woman looks like, as her genetic condition effects her
co-ordination.
Police are appealing for witnesses to this assault so they
can find out the identities of the young males.

Is there any part of this story that is opinion?
The only opinion i think that is in this story is the police's description of the actions, they say 'these are cruel and despicable actions towards a vulnerable woman.'
Why is this story newsworthy?
I believe this story is strongly news worthy because of the fact it happened on christmas day which will make the audience feel even more for the woman. There is also the fact that she has learning difficulties which are genetic and cant be helped will bring the sympathy vote from the audience. Also the fact that she was making this short journey to prove her independence, will pull on peoples heart-strings.
